Just got back from watching A Nightmare on Elm Street. First off, there was plenty of gore (kinda goes with the whole Freddy theme) and the reveal of Freddy's past and what really happened to him was definitely intersting as well as some connections between the characters. The one thing that I TRULY missed about the character of Freddy Kruger, was the smart ass comments he always made. You get a few but nothing that really made you laugh or think that was awesome. The best line actually goes to the female lead character named Nancy (played by Rooney Mara) when she says to Freddy, "You're in my world now, b**ch". EPIC! Her male leading man, Kyle Gallner, who playes Quentin, is just great! He is going to be in MANY more movies. Screm queen award goes to actress Katie Cassidy who plays Chris, the poor girl who gets to see what happens to Kellan's character up close and personal. "Chris" falls asleep in class and when Freddy appears in her dream, the girl lets out a Jamie Lee Curtis worthy scream. Not sure what I am talking about? Go to youtube.com and look it up.
And now onto the character of Dean Russell, played by our very own, Kellan Lutz. His extremely disturbed character was not in the filmvery long but I must say that the time that he did spend in the movie, he was very good and had some serious jumpy moments. Also, he drops the F bomb and says a couple other naughty things that, even though we are in the middle of a scary moment, will still make you cross your legs and moan.
Here's the spoiler and one of the BEST scenes I have EVER seen Kellan do to date..... It looks as though he kills himself to others that don't know about Freddy Kruger, but that is not the case. Kellan's character, Dean, has been forcing himself to stay away for 3 days straight now and he is slipping in and out of consciousness without even realizing it. Well, in his dream, Freddy is holding a knife to his throat, but to those around Dean, no one is there. It looks as though Dean is doing it to himself. The scene is brilliantly intense and Kellan NAILS it.... right up until he jabs the knife so far into his throat and slits it, he nearly decapitates himself. Sounds gross doesn't it? Well, it was. Kellan did an AWESOME job.
