Is 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' Advent calendar causing stirs?

Photobucket

For most Twilight fans, the release of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse to DVD/Blu-Ray (and related merchandise) means some stocking-stuffer and holiday gift ideas are a little easier to determine. So, what's the big deal with a Twilight-themed Advent calendar?

Apparently, there is one.

According to the U.K.'s Metro, such a calendar caused a bit of unrest with Christian Voice, a U.K. ministry, who "says mixing religion with the cult vampire series is ‘deeply offensive’ to Christians."

‘It’s sickening to see the message of Jesus Christ being hijacked to peddle a brand like Twilight, which to all intents and purposes proclaims an anti-religious cult,’ said Stephen Green, national director of the group. 'Twilight may be fiction, but it is dangerous to mix-up such a story in the minds of impressionable children with that of the Nativity.'

Do you agree at all with this suggestion? Apparently, the company responsible for the calendar "apologised if anyone was offended but said it always gives customers a choice, adding: 'Twilight is a very popular brand and we aim to provide the types of products our customers would like to buy.'" Is this a reasonable response, in your mind?

This isn't the first time religious groups have spoken out against the Twilight series, of course, but it's the first time (at least that I can remember), in which such a group has taken issue with a piece of merchandise rather than theSaga itself.
Your thoughts?

Note that there are many, many other brand-oriented Advent calendars easily available. A perusal of Google Shopping presents Advent calendars with themes like:LEGOs, Littlest Pet Shop, and NFL sports teams. Wonder if those are considered to have "hijacked" "the message" "to peddle a brand?" Or is it justTwilight that stirs these waters?
