In September Margaret came down south and we decided a tour of Barnes and a trip to Madam Tussauds was in order.
We started on Sunday with a visit to beautiful Barnes. Rob is a very lucky man growing up in a such a lovely area. Our first stop was Harrodian School, where Rob spent his teenage years being schooled. The building is beautiful and the grounds massive and glorious. Being a Sunday we were unable to gain entrance to the grounds, but we suspect that it may be quite some feat even during the week; the place looks pretty well secured!
A short trip down the road and into a suburb of Barnes rather than Barnes proper brought us to Tower House School which of course is where our man spent his formative years. We sadly couldn’t see much because of the high walls but it’s clearly a small school in a converted house.
We also managed, after some rather intense detective work, to locate the hall where the Barnes Charity Players as they are now known hold their rehearsals and do their performances!
The residents of Barnes must have thought that the two of us had lost it taking photographs of a grotty old hall in a residential street in the middle of Barnes!!
We would also like to add that although we are aware that Rob’s parents and siblings live in Barnes we do not know their address nor did we make any attempt to find out what it is. They have a right to their privacy and it is unfair of fans to crowd outside their house.
On Monday we made the trip into central London and queued for hours to get into Madam Tussauds. Wax Rob is so popular and special he has his own dedicated viewing area with a photographer! Personal opinion is the likeness is pretty shoddy and Sam made an inspection of the back of the neck, we were both incredibly disappointed to discover that there was not one single freckle/mole visible. How can they have missed such a fundamental part of the Robness? Actually having battled the crowds (we mean this literally, the brain power of some of the tourists required physically removing them out of our way) around Tussauds most of the wax figures only loosely resemble their name sakes. Morgan Freeman definitely being the best of the bunch!
After Madam Tussauds and a quick stop for a bite to eat we headed into the West End of London to find Sam a Pocket Edward, a fundamental must have to take on all Rob related business. We now have two to accompany us to all Premiere’s etc. Of course being in the West End meant being in the same area as most of the Rob sightings! We weren’t out looking for him but did manage to have heart failure at the site of every young male in a beanie – do you have any idea how many men where beanie’s in London these days? It’s amazing we weren’t hospitalised by the end of the day!
Sadly we didn’t see Rob at all but we did have a very enjoyable day out and hope that you enjoy looking at the photographs that we took during our two days.
We took a lot of pictures over the two days and we have put them all in our gallery. You can see those taken around Barnes here and the Madam Tussauds pictures here.
