from here:
I just left the food bank. Ironically, hungry. Thinking what if I didn't have the means to feed myself at that moment. What if I couldn't feed myself tonight, tomorrow, the day after.
As an actor, there are times when you work, and times when you don't. I remember a time not to long ago, where I had the same worry as some of the people I saw picking up food today @StMarysFoodBank. Eating Ramen Noodles, or ordering off the dollar menu because I just didn't have money. It was either pay the rent or eat, and being homeless and hungry, was not going to be an option for me. Now granted I had great friends, who told me they'd lend me money, so I didn't have to go without food for too long. But I still remember that feeling of shame, that I had failed; I couldn't even feed myself.
Millions of people in America are hungry every year. 16 million are kids. And in this economy its only going to get worse. The people I saw today, weren't all homeless. Most people looked like your typical neighbor. Your everyday family, they could be someone perhaps you know right now, they could be you, they were me.
"Tackle Hunger". That was the campaign I signed on for. They're trying to reach a goal of 1 million pounds of food for the holiday season. So how do we do it? Well the first step is getting the food. I have almost 50,000 followers on Twitter. If each one of you drops off 2 cans of food. That would equal to over 50,000 lbs of food!!
But why should you care?
Why SHOULDN'T you care? I've said this before, we all live on this planet together and it is our job to take care of one another.
When you sit down for dinner tonight. I want you to think about food. Really think about it. I want you to look at your plate, and then picture it empty. Feel your stomach growling, your head pounding. Then give thanks that you DO have food, be grateful. At any moment you could fall on hard times, and not have the luxuries you do. Think about it.
So if you can help. Please @dosomething :)
