Christoph Waltz is Robert Pattinson’s New Nemesis

Best Supporting Oscar nominee Christoph Waltz has been getting plenty of recognition for his role as the over the top Col. Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds, and he’s ready to play the bad guy again. According to Deadline Hollywood, he’ll be the villain in the upcoming drama Water for Elephants starring Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon.

We previously reported on Pattinson and Witherspoon’s involvement in the film adaptation of Sara Gruen’s novel last month. At the time, they were both in negotiations but it seems like they’re locked in to star. The film’s story will center on a “Depression Era romantic triangle involving a veterinary medicine student (Pattinson) who joins a 2nd-rate travelling circus and falls for the star performer (Witherspoon).”

Waltz will star as the bad guy at the circus, a role that originally had Sean Penn attached until he dropped out due to personal issues. If Waltz’s deal goes through this will be the second American role that he’s landed since he signed with an agent at Hollywood’s ICM.

I hope Christoph doesn’t find himself in the villain mold for the rest of his U.S. career. He seems like such a pleasant and sweet guy in interviews, but all the parts he’s being offered require him to act like an S.O.B. onscreen. Don’t compromise Christoph, your not a one note actor.
