First Look: Kellan Lutz's Abbot + Main Clothing Line

Photobucket

It's been about a week since Twilight star Kellan Lutz officially debuted his casualwear line Abbot + Main at Nordstrom, but we're finally able to give you a first look at the collection. YUSSS! The line features dudes' hoodies, henleys, and graphic tees in neutral whites, blacks, and greys. Sure, it may seem safe, but Kellan's attention to the DETAILS is what really gets us. When WWD met up with him at the A + M launch in Los Angeles, he effortlessly hit every selling point for the $168 hoodie, "Have you felt this? It's really soft. It's not heavy. It becomes cold when the sun sets. You have to have something warm and functional." Oh yes yes yes, Kellan. *nodding vigorously* I really DO have to have it! *hoards three from the rack and bolts to the register*

With a line so focused, Kellan and partner Danny Guez (also founder of the premium denim brand Dylan George) can really know the product intimately. The weight of every fabric. The drape of every cut. THE REAL LIVING DUDE IN EVERY SURFER SCREENPRINT. Okay, maybe they don't actually know that, but maybe by some slim chance they actually DID go to the beach to do their own photo work for their tees, YOU NEVER KNOW. (The idea of Kellan snuggling into such a soft garment makes this line extra appealing.) Even better news, after you swaddle your boy-person in this first set of Abbot + Main goodies, you might even be able to snag some digs for yourself in the near future; the duo hopes to launch a women's collection next spring. BETTER YET, if such a thing gets off the ground, the line will include 60 pieces in SILK and CASHMERE.

"Kellan Lutz Is Out for Blood"

Photobucket

Even after surpassing $1.8 billion at the global box office with the “Twilight” franchise, actor Kellan Lutz had no qualms about revisiting his teen years working in retail to support his new clothing brand. “Have you felt this?” Lutz asked, holding up a $168 gray hoodie from his line called Abbot + Main at Nordstrom in Los Angeles shopping center The Grove. “It’s really soft. It’s not heavy. It becomes cold when the sun sets. You have to have something warm and functional.”

Lutz made his sales pitch last Thursday during the first week that Abbot + Main, his line of men’s tops produced in collaboration with premium denim brand Dylan George, hit Nordstrom and other stores. In his first foray in fashion design, he offered 25 pieces for fall, including $98 Supima cotton Henleys and $54 cotton T-shirts printed with a photograph of a surfer standing on the beach. Lutz snapped the photos of the surfer and other landmarks around Venice, Calif., which not only serves as his place of residence but also the inspiration for the brand, named after a street intersection in the beach-front neighborhood. Abbot + Main plans to expand into the women’s market next spring with 60 pieces in silk and cashmere. Danny Guez, the founder of Dylan George and Lutz’s partner in Abbot + Main, said he hopes to also launch the women’s collection at Nordstrom.

Kellan Talks About Learning Guitar from Rob and Jackson rathbone

Kellan tells LA Times he learned guitar from Rob and Jackson
"I got a couple of books and some iPad apps, but I get to work with Rob and Jackson [Rathbone] on all these movies, who are brilliant musicians," he said. "I get to learn from talented people."

Pattinson has been strumming and crooning for quite some time, even contributing some music to the first "Twilight" film. Rathbone is in the band 100 Monkeys.

Still, don't hold your breath for "Twilight: The Musical."

"I can't sing for crap," Lutz said, "but I enjoy picking up hobbies."

Rob & Kellan's Clothing Line

Photobucket

Twilight hunks Robert Pattinson and Kellan Lutz have plenty to bond over.

Ya know, like paparazzi always pestering them for pics, millions of eligible babes just ready to throw themselves at the big screen vamps and the fact that they're both über-famous for playing sexy fangers, of course. But it looks like their true bond may be over...

Fashion?

Or so says Kellan.

We chatted with the actor-turned-fashionisto at last night's WWE SummerSlam Party and eventually talk turned to his new line, The Abbot + Main. So can we expect to see his costar Robby rockin' the designer duds?

"Rob and I were talking about doing a clothing line together!" Kellan surprised reporters by revealing.

Come again, Lutzy? It's hard for us to imagine R.Pattz spending his type putting together his fall line.

"He didn't know I was doing mine," Kellan explained before reenacting this convo (complete with a fake R.Pattz's accent, of course): "He's like ‘I should do one' and I'm like ‘Oh'. And he found out I was doing one and he's like ‘Really?' It was really funny. He wants to do one too."

But while former model Kellan went all Venice Beach chic for his collection, what would Rob's be like?

Kellan jokes, "What'd we call it, we called it ‘Rags by Rob' or something, because he's always so like, I don't know...hipster."

Well we already know he'd have at least two customers, GF Kristen Stewart and BFF Tom Sturridge, who've both been known to borrow Rob's clothes in the past.

Oh, and if you want to know whether Kellan thinks his clothing line contradicts with his tough guy image, he says heck no.

"I think a strong masculine guy can have soft qualities as well," Kellan told reporters. "My line, it's not the girlie-girl line. It's a comfortable line and that's how I live my life. I want to be comfortable. I can still be tough."

Well, we say kudos. We love your soft side, Kellan!

Photos: Kellan Lutz "Be A Star Anti-Bullying Alliance" Event In Hollywood (August 11)

In a recent interview, Kellan confessed that he was bullied as a child because his ears stuck out more than those of his peers.
“I was the middle child. I had older brother who beat me up. It made me a stronger kid, but the physical abuse was nothing compared to… I mean it is brotherly love, but I couldn’t tell my older brothers that kids at school were calling me Dumbo because they would beat me up even more.”
“My brothers always encouraged me to fight back and not run away so that’s probably not the best advice for me to give, but you have to talk to someone and you have to stand up for yourself. You have to be tough or make yourself mentally tough.”
