Natalia Tena Talks About Rob, Tom Sturridge and 'Bel Ami'

But before that we’ll see her in Bel Ami, a big screen adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s amoral 1885 novel due out next month. She plays a prostitute in a starry cast which includes Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci, Kristin Scott-Thomas and an old friend – Twilight heart-throb Robert Pattinson.

They met in their late teens on a photoshoot for up-and-coming British actors. Afterwards they went to the pub and got drunk. Tena was holding down two bar jobs at the time, so actor Tom Sturridge, also on the shoot, rang her boss and said she’d had an accident and wasn’t coming in. “Needless to say I got fired,” she says. They then decided to go to Berlin, but only got as far as Tena’s flat. She couldn’t find her passport.

“We had this summer of being really close,” she says. “Then I remember Robert taking me out a few months later. He was like, ‘I’m just saying goodbye because I’m going to America for a few months to do some vampire thing.’ I said ‘Cool, I’ll see you when you get back.’” And she explodes into laughter. “Now he’s massive. Literally massive. He used to be like a labrador puppy, but he’s much more mature and serious now.”

So no problem with the sex scene in Bel Ami, then? “Because we know each other, it was cool,” she says. “We just took the piss. I said ‘You just bang me. Can we make it like anal sex, because it looks worse?’”

Like everything else about Natalia Tena, her answer is direct, honest and raucous. She is, in that sense, a rock chick to her bones.

Holly Granger, Rob's Bel Ami co-star, in awe of the way he handled his rise to fame

London audiences will see her next in Cary Fukunaga's dark, surreal Jane Eyre, released in September, and she's just filmed Bel Ami in London and Budapest opposite Twilight star, Robert Pattinson, which comes out this month.

She is in awe of the way Pattinson has handled his meteoric rise to fame. When they were filming in Budapest, the Hungarian radio stations constantly broadcast their location, so Pattinson had to keep changing hotels.

Colm Meaney, Rob's 'Bel Ami' Co-Star, Says Shooting With Him Was Like Beatlemania

This is an old interview, from February 2011, but we missed it. Now, thanks to the Irish Central article, we found the video. Click on the screencap to watch - at 11:20.

From Irish Central

The trailer for Robert Pattinson’s film upcoming ‘Bel Ami’ has been released, in which the London born actor plays a young soldier in 1890s Paris.

Adapted from the the Guy de Maupassant novel, Pattinson stars alongside Irish actor Colm Meaney.

Meaney, originally from Dublin, spoke about Pattinson’s screaming fans in a Late Late show interview.

“In Budapest we were shooting and it was mad because...it really was like what you would imagine was Beatlemania was like,” Meaney said.

No matter where they filmed the Irish actor said there were “screaming girls everywhere” eager to see Pattinson.

“We were shooting way out past Heathrow in a big old country house and there were these two, not girls now, women, middle aged women, who for three days were camped at the gate house of this estate

“And they camped there for three days in miserable weather hoping to catch a glimpse of him,” Meaney recalled.

Rumour: Bel Ami will premiere at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival in September?

Photobucket

No word on a release date yet, though The Playlist expects Bel Ami will premiere at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival in September.

Daily Mail Calls Robert Pattinson’s ‘Bel Ami’ a ‘Tasty Treat’

It looks like Robert Pattinson’s career as a Hollywood heartthrob is far from reaching its Twilight. The hunky English actor is getting ready for the release of his most outrageous movie yet, in which he stars as a philandering Frenchman who sleeps with married women to advance his social status. He shines as cad Georges Duroy in Bel Ami, who travels through 1890s Paris using his attractiveness to seduce influential older women. Luckily for him they are played by a succession of sexy actresses including Kill Bill star Uma Thurman.

He has a meteoric rise from the status of a pauper until he is in a position of power among the Parisian elite in the adaptation of the Guy de Maupassan novel. Robert, 25, admits his adoring Twilight fans, who are used to him portraying loveable vampire Edward Cullen, will be in for a shock. He said: ‘We were really true to the book and because the guy is basically a s**t who wins everything at the end it’s really difficult to market it – especially with me in it. ‘Everyone’s worried that everyone’s going to be thinking, ‘Oh I want him to be nice, he’s got to be nice to all the ladies.’’ In the novel his character is an ex-soldier who becomes an amoral journalist, and ends up becoming the most successful man in Paris. Surprisingly Robert does not wear the infamous sculptured bushy moustache women found irresistible in the original book.

But he still manages to get to grips with no less than three of his leading ladies – Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas. However fans of the sensitive young actor do not need to worry about his character’s caddish tendencies rubbing off on him. Thurman, who co-stars as one of his numerous conquests, said: ‘He is incredibly concrete in his presence on the set and obviously very handsome’. ‘He’s a very nice person and he’s sensitive, he’s present, he’s a really good actor.’

Michael Angarano can't wait to see Bel Ami !

Michael Angarano

Robert Pattinson hasn't always been Kristen Stewart's leading man.

Long before she even considered moving to the small town of Forks, she was supported from a messy trauma by Michael Angarano in "Speak." The two young stars eventually dated and, well, you know at least half of that story.

As for the other half, Angarano appears to be doing just as fine. He stars in "Ceremony," out this weekend, as well as "Red State," "Homework" and "Haywire" later this year. Upon meeting him backstage at MTV's "The Seven," he comes off excited, inspired and even a little goofy.

And we absolutely understand what K.Stew saw in him.

Your character in "Ceremony," Sam, is a bit of a man-child who tries to prove he's a big shot in an attempt to woo Uma Thurman's character. And he talks really fast. Did you ever find him annoying?
To judge him in any way is very wrong in my point of view. I just looked at him as a very flawed, manically insecure guy whose having an identity crisis of some kind, whose been bulls**tting himself for so long that he doesn't realize that he's bullsh**ting other people too. He's fooling himself but not really anybody else. If anything, I really felt for him instead of finding him annoying. The more annoying he is, the more upsetting it is.

(Scans) Empire Magazine: Rob talks about "Water For Elephants", "Bel Ami", "Twilight" & "Cosmopolis"

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Monday July 19, 2010. Empire is in LA, on the backlot of 20th Century Fox. Behind the studio's towering HQ - Better known as die hard's Nakatomi Plaza - in blazing sunshine. Today, we are lucky enough to witness one of the biggest street scenes filmed here since acres of the company's real estate were sold off in 1961 to foot the runaway costs of it's epic Cleopatra.

The cobbled streets are teeming with extras, all dressed in 1930s city mode - frills and brollies for the women, boots and braces for the boys - and there's a palpable air of excitement. Which is understandable, because, for once in Hollywood, the circus really is coming to town.

At the end of a salvo of jugglers, clowns and acrobats lumblers an elephant, balancing Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon, one of the town's most bankable actresses, on it's head. Dressed in a striking ringmaster's outfit, Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterd's unforgettable villain, theatrically parades her. And just out of our sightline, in a full chino combo, Robert Pattinson, Twilight icon and global superstar, is bringing up the rear. This, Empire thinks, this is the magic of the movies!

TotalFilm: Robert Pattinson's Bel Ami in marketing hell

Photobucket

Exclusive: Execs nervy of portraying heartthrob as a 'shit'

Robert Pattinson admits that Bel Ami is still in editing because studio honchos are worried about alienating audiences used to his goody-two-shoes persona in the Twilight franchise.

RPattz plays the titular Bel Ami in an adaptation of Maupassant's classic novel about a 19th century womanising, social-climbing journalist who sleeps his way round Paris.

Filming in the UK and Budapest opposite leading ladies Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristen Scott Thomas wrapped in spring 2010 and was originally slated for a Christmas release. It currently has no confirmed opening date.

"We were really true to the book and because the guy is basically a shit who wins everything at the end it’s really difficult to market it – especially with me in it," Pattinson tells TF exclusively.

"Everyone’s worried that everyone’s going to be thinking, ‘Oh I want him to be nice, he’s got to be nice to all the ladies’."

Bel Ami, though, is an unrepentant cad. "I know," laughs the Water For Elephants star, "But that was fun!"

For more on Robert Pattinson and Water For Elephants check out the latest issue of Total Film, out 14 April.
