Emilie de Ravin on working with Robert Pattinson

An awful lot of Twilight fans will be lining up to see vampire heartthrob Robert Pattinson in his new movie, Remember Me, opening this Friday. When co-star Emilie de Ravin signed on to play his love interest, however, she literally had no idea what she was getting herself into.

"I didn't know him," she says bluntly, discussing the film from a Toronto hotel room recently. "I had no preconceived notion of who he was because I didn't know from his name."

So, totally unaware of the Twilight books and films phenomenon? "I suppose I was aware of it," she allows. "But I hadn't seen the films, and I didn't connect his name with that."

The 28-year-old Australian actress is currently shooting the sixth and final season of Lost, in which she plays Claire Littleton, one of the survivors of a downed airliner. (Maybe getting stranded on a Pacific island is the only way to avoid Twilight.) "It's bittersweet that it's ending," she says, but adds it will open up more time for film projects.

Remember Me seemed to fall in her lap. "The script was just sent my way," she said. "I knew nothing about it, knew no one involved, just read it and really I just couldn't put it down. I just immediately fell in love with it and the role of Ally. Such a great meaty role, something I felt I could really do something with."

Her character is living in Queens, New York, with her single father, a police officer played by Chris Cooper. As we learn in the opening scene, her mother was shot and killed in front of her by purse-snatchers on the subway in 1991. Ten years later, she meets Tyler Hawkins (Pattinson), who carries his own secret wound.

Filming on location in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens was a challenge, de Ravin says. Pattinson tends to draw crowds. "There was such a heightened excitement around all the sets," she says. "So even if you come in and are doing a very serious scene, everyone around is so excited and happy. So it's odd, if you're not doing a scene that requires that emotion, to be surrounded and enveloped by it."

De Ravin's erratic acting career began with parts on TV's BeastMaster and Roswell when she was still a teenager. Since then she has found work in such low-budget gems as 2005's Brick, and blockbuster fare like last year's Michael Mann film Public Enemies. ("For a minute," she says of her minor role.)

"I wouldn't say I was drawn to a certain genre or a certain kind of character," she notes. "I think it's mainly about just something that clicks when you read it, and something that's going to challenge me in a new and different way. I think it's very easy, especially nowadays, to get somewhat pigeonholed in playing the funny girl or the girl next door or the girl in the horror movies. So I strive not to let that happen."

In fact, de Ravin has twice appeared as "the girl in the horror movies," in Santa's Slay in 2005 and The Hills Have Eyes the following year. Her next project is a little different, however. She will provide the voice for an owl in the animated film Legend of the Guardians, directed by Zack Snyder (Watchmen).

"I'm a 'tween owl," she says, unable to stop from laughing. "Half the fun was just trying out all these different voices. And you're also taped while you're doing it, so they can put your facial expressions ... into the animation, which just amazes me. Just to see how I look as a little fluffy owl. She's very cute."

Meet the Kid Who Schooled Robert Pattinson

Kristen Stewart doesn't quell Robert Pattinson's self-conscious, hair-pulling tendencies.

Neither does Peter Facinelli, Taylor Lautner or Emilie de Ravin. That honor goes to none other than the actor's 11-year-old Remember Me costar, Ruby Jerins.

"She's so easy to act with," Rob tells E! News. "It's the first time since I've been doing acting that I've felt completely unself-conscious, because I could feel that she wasn't at all. That completely rubs off on me."

That's not the only superlative the Twilight hottie had for the girl who plays his little sister.

"She's phenomenal," he continues. "On the first day I met her, me, Allen [Coulter, the director] and Emilie were sitting around discussing our scenes together and she hadn't really said anything. I kind of asked just to be nice. I was just like, 'So what do you think about it?' And she's sitting there and goes into this whole diatribe about her character's backstory in the most interesting way. And she'd been writing notes on all the stuff we were saying and was quoting what we were saying back to us."

"She's incredible," Emilie agrees, admitting that she and the child star have remained pen pals over email. "She's just amazing in the film and she's a very, very smart girl. You can just watch her and you can forget what you're meant to be doing."

So could she be the next big child star like Rob's New Moon pal Dakota Fanning?

"She's going to be a massive actress, I think," he says. "She's the best improviser I've ever met. You can literally say anything to her and she'll completely stay in character."

And yet, much to Rob's surprise and chagrin, the Nurse Jackie starlet is still totally a kid.

"She's this hyperintelligent, hypermature kid, but I saw her play, and she's like a little girl when you see her with her friends. I don't understand how that happens at all."

"There's something about her—one of those indescribable things," Emilie says.

Robert Pattinson Reveals The Secret To His Success

The only way I can really get things done is if I completely believe the opposite,' the 'Remember Me' star tells MTV News.

Sometimes it ain't easy being young. But it sure can be dramatic, and it certainly can make for some amazing stories.

The latest reminder of this is "Remember Me," a powerful drama starring "Lost" actress Emilie de Ravin and the incomparable Robert Pattinson. In the film, RPattz is a troubled young man grappling with life after his brother's suicide and finding salvation in the arms of Ally, a woman determined to savor the beauty in life following her mother's murder. The March 12 movie, like life itself, is sloppy and beautiful all at the same time.

Recently we caught up with the film's perfect-looking leads to discuss the difficulties of being young. And they told us that beneath the surface, we're all magnificently flawed.

"Yeah, probably," was de Ravin's response when we asked if she sometimes feels as confused as her character. "Yeah. I mean, it's OK to be confused, isn't it?"

"I guess it depends on how confused," Pattinson grinned. "Or about what."

"That's true," she responded, saying that confusion isn't always a bad thing. "There is a degree."

And where there's confusion, there's often rebellion — manifested in the film by Rob's character Tyler, who has a serious problem with authority in many scenes that are drawing comparisons to James Dean in "Rebel Without a Cause."

"I used to be more [rebellious]," Pattinson said of his younger days, adding, "I've been beaten by the system."

What do the actors do when they feel life has got them down? Well, James Dean famously banged his head.

"I don't physically beat my head against a wall," de Ravin smiled, looking at her co-star. "Do you?"

"Sometimes," Pattinson responded. "That's why my hair is so flat."

Then there's self-righteousness, a characteristic often shared by rebels; sometimes they really are right — and RPattz told us that in his own unique way, he does have a self-righteous streak.

"He's righteous to a fault," Rob said of his character. "I definitely [am as well], but I always get proved wrong.

"The only way I can really get things done is if I completely believe the opposite," explained the "Twilight" star. "If I make myself believe the opposite, then the thing I initially wanted will happen. That's the way I've worked my whole life.

"If I keep working, working, working at the opposite of what I want," he grinned, "I'll get everything I want."

‘Remember Me’ After Party in NYC!

It was madness! HollywoodLife.com was front and center on the red carpet Mar. 1 for the premiere of Robert Pattinson’s new romantic drama Remember Me. Throngs of highly emotional fans lined 58th street in front of the Paris Theater just to catch a glimpse of Rob and his co-star Emilie de Ravin. Rob, we can report looks INCREDIBLY HOT in person and taller than expected – looking a good 6 ‘ 1″. He walks with confidence , makes scruffy” look sexy. He was beaming as he walked and he stopped to give a big hug to one of his family members on the carpet. When we asked him if he considers himself a rebel, like his character Tyler, in the film, he agreed!

Then loyal fans who waited in the freezing cold for hours got an unexpected surprise! Not only did Rob’s official GF Kristen Stewart show up — but she walked the red carpet! Kirsten looked really tall in person ( she’s 5′ 6″, but was wearing very high satin Bally platform pumps) and extremely skinny but was strikingly pretty and stylish in skinny Burburry pants and a 1020 by Nicole leather jacket . She looked shy and kept her head down and didn’t stop to do interviews. It was very much like she wanted it to be Rob’s night but still be there to support him. After an 8pm screening of the film the duo headed down the street to the exclusive after party at The Plaza Hotel and we were there to catch it all!

Kristen opted to change out of her pumps and gold leggings into a more comfortable pair of her favorite black Converse sneakers and jeans. Rob decided to keep wearing his blue suit, white button -down shirt, and open-necked with no tie look for the duration of the night. After a long night of much deserved partying the couple exited The Plaza with Rob looking as though he may have had one too many. Oh my, Rob – bodyguards had to give you a hand, when you came out. But you did look happy and relieved after your big premier with Kirsten and your parents, Rob and Clare.

Rob finally admitted to the UK newspaper, The Sun, that “it is extremely difficult, but we are together, yes … we can’t arrive (to events) at the same time because of the fans. It gets crazy.” He wasn’t joking!

The two will be in NYC for at least a few days, as they hit the late night TV circuit. Rob appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Mar. 1 and Kristen is set to appear on The Tonight Show Mar. 10.

We hope to see more of these two semi-sneaking around NYC, but we admit we can see why it’s hard to go out together! — Chloe Melas

'Remember Me' Stars Rave About Robert Pattinson At NYC Premiere

'He's fascinating to watch because he's so naturally subtle and interesting,' Emilie de Ravin tells MTV News.

The mountains of snow piled up on the sidewalks could not keep Robert Pattinson's fans at bay Monday evening (March 1) at the red-carpet premiere for his romantic drama, "Remember Me." The screaming masses lined up early and were gifted with a few moments of rabid OME-dom as RPattz ran down the line greeting all those who waited to catch a glimpse of him.

Inside the makeshift press tent at the Paris Theatre in midtown, the energy was no less wild, the screams of folks waiting to talk with Pattinson no less ear-piercing. But the 23-year-old superstar, tired yet amused as ever by the pandemonium, seemed to take it all in stride. While MTV News was chatting with his co-star Emilie de Ravin, Pattinson leaned over and shouted, "Emilie! Emilie! What's the most fascinating thing about me? Just say it!"

It was that kind of evening, as all involved in "Remember Me" contended with the noisy reality of what it means to have a "Twilight" vampire in your cast. De Ravin and co-stars Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper spoke about how this role — in which RPattz plays a rebellious young man who falls for a beautiful girl (De Ravin) — represents a profound evolution for Pattinson as an actor.

"It means growth," Cooper said of his co-star's part. "Robert had a big hand as an executive producer in this film. That tells me he's going to branch out into fields other than acting. He's got a lot to deal with already, but he's been able to handle it beautifully."

De Ravin, who earlier had told MTV News about her instant connection with Pattinson, continued to rave about his skills in front of the camera. "He's amazing," she said. "He's fascinating to watch because he's so naturally subtle and interesting."

While the cries from onlookers increased as Pattinson went to greet his fans, Brosnan could only stand back and watch with pride. "This is his night," he said. "I think this particular piece of drama for him is very significant as a young actor who's come on the stage in a blinding glare of light and fame. He's an executive producer on this film, so he's committed himself to finding good work."

'Remember Me' Stars Robert Pattinson, Emilie De Ravin On Being Self-Critical

'You can never be a character, that's the one thing I'm sort of starting to realize,' RPattz said of acting.

"Remember Me," the drama starring Robert Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin due out March 12, is a film focused more on character than plot. And when the actors sat down with MTV News, they discussed how difficult it was to not be too critical of themselves in a film that focuses so heavily on acting.

"I'm always quite self-deprecating, I suppose," de Ravin said, stealing the term so often used to describe Pattinson. "I'm trying to get out of that and trying to look at something from a removed point of view."

She said it's not just hard not to be critical of her own acting but also of the other actors she works with.

"It's even hard watching people, you know, in a role," she said. "Even if they're fantastic, you know that person so well that it's hard to sort of separate it."

Pattinson faced a different challenge, one he has been working on overcoming since the first "Twilight" film. Back then, he had delved so deeply into the character of Edward, it worried some of the cast and crew, and he was told not to take the character so seriously. Two years later, he said the lesson is starting to sink in.

"You can never be a character, that's the one thing I'm sort of starting to realize," he said. "I always thought that, you know, you look at 'Raging Bull' and stuff and think, 'Wow, De Niro, he's become someone else.' And I was completely convinced that there is some way that you can actually become someone else for three months."

He added, "I'm gradually starting to realize it's more about performance rather than actually some kind of physical [transformation], and it's taken me quite a long time to realize that."

Robert Pattinson Used Bra to Cover His Ass Crack!

ROBERT Pattinson used a bra to cover his “ass crack” while filming new movie Remember Me.

The Twilight heartthrob — who stars opposite Emilie De Ravin in the upcoming flick — says the film’s costume department had forgotten to buy a “modesty patch”, so he was forced to rely on women’s lingerie to hide his private bits.

“They had to, like, tape it and stretch [a bra] around into my ass crack. It was quite funny. It’s all very glamorous,” Pattinson recalled.

“Allen Coultner, the director, gave us this whole kind of lecture about how to feel ’safe’.”

Rob said Allen told him, “‘I’ve just got a couple of things which, you know, you can use them or don’t use them, fine, if it just makes you feel better about it’.

“And we walk into the bedroom, and laid out on the bed, the art department had got all these things like handcuffs and improvised sex toys made out of hair dryers and things, and every single thing from the costume department, like a top hat and little silk things.”

Pattinson, 23, recently admitted he’s baffled by how much press attention his life attracts.

“I saw pictures of me, buying pants, in the papers and I thought, ‘What do you expect me to wear?’” he said earlier this week.
